Collard Green Dip with Bacon Crumbles from Nealey Dozier at Dixie Caviar |
Welcome to my last blog post of 2011! After my unintended vacation from blogging, it’s just in time to share the some of the dishes that I’ll be preparing for New Year’s Day. As a southerner, there’s a lot of superstition tradition that goes in the planning of the New Year’s Meal. Fish, greens, and black-eyed peas are a must!
This New Year, I’ll be mixing up that tradition a little. We’ll start the morning with Blackened Fish & Shrimp with Grits, instead of my usual fried. Later in the day my greens and black-eyed peas will come in the form of appetizers! When Nealey Dozier, from one of my favorite blogs, Dixie Caviar, posted a recipe for Collard Green Dip with Bacon, I knew that I’d be trying this as an appetizer for our New Years celebration. It looks so creamy and delicious…she even made a bread bowl! Click the link and go directly to her site for the recipe. While you’re there, check out her lovely blog...It’s fabulous Southern cooking with a fun fresh approach!
I’d also seen Deep Fried Black Eyed Peas on FoodNetwork’s Best Thing I Ever Ate and knew that I’d be preparing them too! Click here for the YouTube video. They look incredible! I can’t wait to let you know how these turn out 🙂
So, I’m asking…What are your New Year’s food traditions?
WOW! This could not be any cooler if you tried. I love collard greens but never thought about putting them in a dip in place of spinach. LOVE IT!
I’m not much of a collard green eater, but I just might try this. I looks yummo. Very interesting.
