We’ve been in this house for almost eight years and I never decorated the foyer. I’d seen all sorts of painted chests that I could use for the area but, never forked out the cash. Truth be told, it wasn’t a big deal because I figured that this was so temporary, by the time I decorated the foyer we’d probably be moving. Yeah, right!
Eight years with an empty foyer was all changed in the matter of a quick trip onto Pinterest. There, I found a link to one of my new favorites, The Yellow Cape Cod. Interior Design Blogger, Sarah Macklem, did a post/video tutorial on How to achieve the Pottery Barn Black Finish on furniture. With her instructions, some supplies, and a bargain piece that I found at a local antique shop, I was ready to create my masterpiece!

All sanded/painted/sanded(3x), waxed & buffed(3x), and finished with new knobs. |
This was one of my favorite projects to date. Take heed to Sarah’s warning: You’ll want to make more!
I love it….I want to do this to a dresser and make it our TV stand. My son is not really using his long dresser and I think this would be perfect. I hope to sometime in the next year to do it. So pretty….I know you are extremely tickled with it. Love Pinterest. Good Job!
This looks awesome, Shawn! My friend and her husband made their own dining room table and now I’m inspired to do some of my own DIY projects. Thanks for sharing this one!
